A snapshot of tribal libraries: 40-89 percent do not have broadband access! - Blandin on BroadbandThe first 6 months of the year I spent time every month on the Fond du Lac reservation specifically at the tribal center in Cloquet. Theres a library in the tribal center with computers and good broadband. And once I month I was in the building providing some kind of Internet/computer training. Turns out FdL is top of the class when compared to other tribal libraries. I was shocked by some of the

Why Im Not Going Back-to-School Shopping - Northern Cheapskate

Why Im Not Going Back-to-School Shopping - Northern Cheapskate This is the time of year when a lot of folks are talking about back-to-school shopping. Theyre talking about how much money theyre spending. Theyre talking about making special road trips to shopping malls with bigger and better stores. Theyre talking about how difficult their kids are about buying clothes. And worst of all, theyre talking about finally paying off their credit card bills from last years back-to-school shopping. My plan is to avoid all of that. You see, my family doesnt go back-to-school shopping, at least, not in the traditional sense. We dont believe sales fliers, a calendar, and societal pressure should dictate the need for an entire new wardrobe for our kids each and every fall. Instead we have a strategy for stockpiling kids clothing.

Finding the perfect Dan for the film of Neither Wolf nor Dog - Kent Nerburn

There are many balancing acts involved in the filming of Neither Wolf nor Dog, but none more crucial and precarious than finding the right actor to play Dan. Of course, his namesake, Chief Dan George, would have been great. Floyd Westerman, too, had the combination of a distant, withdrawn wisdom and an irrepressible twinkle. He and I had even talked about the role. But, sadly, he passed. The same is true of Gordon Tootoosis who would have brought a different feel to the role.
